Multi-Temp Light for photography or videography

Current users - NBC and Fox News

Modern video cameras have a superb low light capability that makes available-light recording possible and the most used method of shooting video. However, if you need better control of a scene and a higher quality image, supplemental lighting may be needed. As you may have observed, low light levels increase the graininess of video images. Conversely, more light results in higher resolution and higher quality images. We feel that the flexibility of our Multi-Temp Light will help you achieve professional results while making the Multi-Temp your favorite artificial light source.

The Multi-Temp Light uses four cool burning fluorescent light bulbs of slightly different colors to provide lighting that closely replicates natural daylight. The compact fluorescent light bulbs generate the approximate four times the light output of incandescent bulbs with a life expectancy of approximately 5,000 hours. The bulbs are warm to the touch but don’t generate the scalding heat that makes incandescent or halogen bulbs such a burn and fire hazard.

Why 4 different color temperature bulbs

For years light bulb manufacturers have tried to create the perfect light source by experimenting with different filaments and bulb coatings. There were daylight fluorescents, halogens and even high tech metal discharge lamps, but none was perfect. We discovered that like an orchestra achieving a wonderful sound by combining multiple players and instruments. We can achieve a very high quality natural light by combining multiple lights of different characteristics in slightly different locations. This is what makes the Multi-Temp Light different from other artificial lights.

The light system comes with four different color temperature bulbs: 6400, 5000, 4100 and 2700 Kelvin. The resultant color temperature of the four lamp combination is approximately 5000K.  The light pattern produces color variations that give the light its depth.  Commercial photographers have described a "roundness" to this light as compaired to other lights that look "flat."

The user can select one, two, three or four different bulbs resulting in 15 possible color combinations that can change the character of the video image. Additionally, some users set their video camera "White Balance" under one color temperature and then switch to different color temperatures to create a warmer or cooler look without the use of filters.

Two different styles - Compact and Umbrella

The umbrella Multi-Temp can be used for direct illumination, fill-in, back-light or background illumination. Since there are four bulbs, the light is naturally diffused but the light also comes with a 14" x 15" removable plastic front diffuser and collapsible 36" white umbrella reflector that can also serve as a very soft front diffuser.

The compact version is only 20” x 8” x 6” with the bulbs fully enclosed in an ABS case with a protective diffuser lens.  The case is very rugged and gets warm but is not hot to the touch.  Both lamps are much cooler than halogen bulbs and never cause discomfort for the video subject or videographer.

Each style light mounts on a steel boom tripod that can hold the lamp as high as 8’ or 3’ off center.  The boom extension permits placement of the light over obstacles.  Optional leg weight bags are available if the lamp has to be extended beyond a normal horizontal balance point or in very windy locations.

The bulbs used in the Multi-Temp Light provide the added advantage of having a very high Color Rendition Index (CRI).  As a result, when all 4 bulbs are used, color accuracy and saturation are exceptional.
